• In primary education, children between the ages of 5 and 11 are taught, divided into two Key Stages. Key Stage 1 covers children between the ages of 5 and 7 and Key Stage 2 covers children between the ages of 7 and 11.

At the end of this education, students normally take external examinations such as GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Standard Grades in Scotland.
• A post-compulsory education program, which covers non-advanced courses, is primarily for students aged 16 to 18. It includes skill development, higher vocational education such as City and Guilds and Foundation Degrees. It does not include university education.
